I was fortunate to visit Antarctica in February 2010. It was an amazing experience to say the least. Antarctica truly is the last eden. It is almost like landing on a foreign planet, size and scale defy the norms there, the scenery cannot easily be captured photographically and yet there is so much to photograph. Mankind has made his footprint there as he tried to tame this hostile place and we visited one of those places, the British Antarctic base of Port Lockroy. It is situated in a beautiful natural harbour, on a rocky landing surrounded by mountains. This image was taken as I walked onto the rocky ledge and hobbled across the rocks and into the base itself. There were lots of baby penguins on the base, some of them literally sleeping near the doorway into the building, so entering the building was made difficult. The base is now a museum and receives hundreds of visitors each year. This is a panoramic stitch of 4 images. Click on the image to see a bigger version.
